✍️ Financial Freedom for Writers with Nicole & Tylor Franklin of Not Your Ordinary Plan

How to achieve Financial Independence -- and what writers and creatives should think about when it comes to new ideas around money and values.

I met Nicole and Tylor Franklin of Not Your Ordinary Plan when Kyle and I were traveling across China. We first met on a food tour, then hung out in Chongqing with them for a sunset hotpot barbecue!

While the four of us were eating great food in China, we had some great conversations about why we love to travel, the benefits of financial independence, and how to live a great life while aligning your spending with your values.

Nicole and Tylor are bloggers in the Financial Independence community (often abbreviated to FI or FIRE — Financial Independence Retire Early) and they’ve hit an impressive goal of 7-figures in their investment accounts while being semi-retired in their 30s.

In this Substack Live, I had Nicole and Tylor on to chat with me about…

  • What Financial Independence really is and why it’s important for writers and freelancers to think about.

  • They also shared the other pieces of advice (and inspiration!) that writers and creatives need to hear when it comes to finding more stability and better frameworks about money.

  • In the past, I’ve talked to writers like Lane Scott Jones about how writers can plan to take a creative sabbatical, and in this interview Nicole and Tylor build on those concepts by sharing the financial scaffolding needed by writers and creatives to be able to take more time off or have “career optionality.”
