Yes! You can either hire a designer to create it for you, or you can use Canva (which I recommend) or even just a Powerpoint template to create slides with the information I shared on the presentation. You can just create a template and then fill in the information and either use screenshots or copy and paste the text from your portfolio items and format them that way.
Hi Amy! This was really helpful. One question...would you recommend putting the full text of a piece (even if it's multiple pages) or is it better to select a excerpts for our portfolios?
It depends on how long the piece is! For mine I do full pieces for articles, personal essays, and short stories and then just excerpts of the full books. If you have a table of contents it makes it more skimmabke for the client but still allows them to dive deeper into your work with multiple pages per project. Hope that helps :)
Hi Amy, thanks for the great class! I have a question about the "Featured In" section and logos. I only have one paid byline so far (a First Person essay with CBC), but I’ve also published personal essays in Medium publications with high editorial standards (The Memorist and The Narrative Arc). Can I include those as well, even though they weren’t paid? Do I need to obtain permission from the editors to use their logos?
Yes, you can absolutely include those even though they weren't paid! And no, you don't need to obtain permission to use their logos (unless your contract with them states otherwise, you can always check with your lawyer if you're worried about it.)
This was fantastic - thank you Amy! Can you give guidance on HOW to make a PDF portfolio? Do you have/know of a resource for the logistics?

I watched the replay. I appreciate all the tips to building a portfolio. I will be working on mine this week 😃
I'm glad you found it helpful!
