✍️ Prices Go Up Wednesday — Here’s How to Save Today
Switch to annual before August 6th to stay at $80/year (just over $6/month).
Hey writers,
You may have noticed a lot happening behind the scenes here at ✍️ Make Writing Your Job. Over the past week, we’ve gone from a 2x weekly job board to 5 days a week — every weekday now brings you a fresh roundup of high-paying writing jobs.
Plus, we’ve added a Grants, Residencies, and Contests email every Wednesday and built out a year-round pitch database to keep you pitching smarter.
To make this sustainable, we’ve been growing our team and initiatives to help writers — and with growth comes a price update. Starting Wednesday, August 6th, monthly subscriptions will increase to $15/month.
Want to keep your current price? Upgrade to an annual subscription at $80/year before Wednesday. That locks you in at just over $6/month for the next year.

🙌 Writing Community Wins!
Here’s what some of your fellow writers in the community have been up to lately:
- just launched their Substack “Are U Having Any Fun?” Here’s what they shared: “Just started a Substack anonymously interviewing people over 30 about the fun they are having in their lives. It's called Are U Having Any Fun? I'm still compiling and editing submissions, but they have been cool so far!” What a great concept — we could all use some more fun in our lives. Congrats on the launch! 🚀
- just had another of her articles go live in Business Insider and you can read it here. Great work, Nicole!
- wrote a post that’s trending on Substack about what it’s like to make friends as an adult, and you can read it here. 🎉 What a lovely piece — congrats, Cara!

🫖 Sunday Tea: What’s New at ✍️ Make Writing Your Job
As you’ve probably noticed, the Writing Job Board has leveled up. Our incredible team of curators — Allison, Lauryl, and Grace Anne — have been working nonstop to uncover the best writing opportunities for you. Most days, we’re sending 50+ jobs straight to your inbox, and we’re not stopping there.
Here’s what’s new:
Daily Job Roundups: Every weekday, you get a curated list of vetted writing jobs.
Grants, Residencies, and Contests: Every Wednesday, we deliver opportunities to fund your work or spend a week writing from a chateau in the South of France while you work on your novel. (Aren’t writing residencies great?)
Pitch Database: A living, breathing resource full of editors who are actually open to pitches — updated by our team so you’re not just pitching into the void. (You can find the link to this on any writing job board in the “pitch” section!)
And this is just the start. If you’ve got ideas for the kinds of writing jobs and opportunities you want to see more of, go ahead and let us know in the comments. Your feedback helps us shape what we prioritize.
Behind the scenes, I’m fielding Featured Jobs from clients who want to hire you — sometimes even hopping on phone calls with them to understand exactly what type of writers they’re looking for. These roles rarely hit public job boards because we’re building trust with these clients to connect them to the best writers (aka you!). I’ve got a few more initiatives lined up to continue to develop relationships with cool clients who want to source writers from our community.
A quick tip: Subscriber Chat is where jobs drop first. Our curators post there the moment they find something new. Jobs fill fast, so if you haven’t downloaded the Substack app yet, do it now. That’s where the action (and the networking) happens. People are swapping portfolio tips, journalists are asking you for your experience on writing retreats for stories, or even collaborating on projects.
I’ve also got new perks in the works for subscribers — more on that soon. And if you want more of my behind-the-scenes ramblings? They’ve moved to my personal Substack, Sutoscience, which you can check out below.
Until then, thank you for making this community what it is — ambitious, resourceful, and committed to helping you make writing your job.
-Amy
