✍️ Featured Job: Freelance Line Editor for a Romance Novel
An author of a romance novel is hiring a line editor and the rate range is $1,000-$4,000.
I’m hiring for my client’s truly special book — a cinematic, memoir-like romance novel based on a true story. It follows love, loss, a military wife, and some harrowing (yet heartwarming) real-life twists.
This is a polished manuscript that’s been through multiple rounds of revision, and we’re looking for an experienced line editor to do a final, sharp pass before it heads to its final proofreading stage. Rate range is $1,000-$4,000 for this line edit.
Role: Freelance Line Editor for a Romance Novel
Estimated Budget Range: $1,000-$4,000
Details: The manuscript is around 160,000 words, and has already gone through:
Two full rounds of developmental editing
A previous line-edit
An earlier proofread
The client is currently adding about 40 new pages — an action-heavy set piece — so this pass will need to address that material while also taking a fresh look at the whole text.
We’re looking for a line editor who can:
Tackle the new sections with the same high-quality polish
Identify any remaining flow issues, inconsistencies, or errors
Suggest small cuts or trims to help pacing without impacting story
Flag anything factually wrong or confusing
Help ensure the text reads smoothly and consistently throughout
This is not a developmental edit. We’re not looking for major structural or content notes — just a smart, thorough line-level pass that catches what earlier rounds may have missed.
Because the manuscript is already in excellent shape (despite its length), we expect this edit to be a “last look” before final proofreading, which will follow separately. That’s reflected in the budget range here.
If you’re a detail-focused editor with experience in long-form fiction (especially romance or memoir-style narratives), we’d love to hear from you.
This project would likely start near the end of July.
Deadline for applications: Thursday, July 10th at 5pm PT, but the sooner the better!
