Role: Ghostwriter Wanted for Historical Western Romance (Full-Length Novel)
Rate: $200 per 1,000 words, paid per approved chapter
Description provided by the client:
Commitment: 2-3 chapters per month
Start Date: As soon as possible through completion
Credit: None. Work-for-hire, full rights assignment, NDA required.
The project
I’m looking for an experienced historical romance or historical fiction ghostwriter to help me finish a full-length historical romance set on the frontier and in Manhattan, 1888–1890. It’s dual POV: a New York heiress and the foreman of the ranch she inherits, with an antagonistic-to-romantic arc running against a slow-burn conspiracy plot.
Thirty-plus chapters, with a detailed outline already written and the prologue, opening chapters, and several key scenes already drafted. You’d be writing to an established structure and an established voice rather than inventing either, which I hope makes this a comfortable book to step into. You’ll get a beat-by-beat outline, character biographies, and a general plot overview. That said, the outline is a working document, not scripture. So, I’d love a collaborator who tells me when a chapter could be better, and I’m very happy to change plot and structure to get there.
The voice is the part I’m most particular about. The FMC and MMC “speak” in two different registers: hers ironic and Austen-inflected, his plain and physical for violence and the range. I do have a style guide I would like you to emulate. If that sounds like a fun problem rather than a headache, we’ll get along well.
Requirements
Non-negotiable:
Demonstrable experience writing historical romance or historical fiction. Not just fantasy with corsets, please!
Comfort with dark material. The book contains marital rape, period-accurate subjugation of women (legal, economic, domestic) and violence. These are consequential to the story. If you’d need to soften them, this isn’t the job for you, and that’s completely fine.
Comfort writing explicit sex: character-driven and on the page, but never gratuitous.
Preferred:
Experience ghostwriting to an outline you didn’t write
Familiarity with the American West, 19th-century property and inheritance law, cattle operations, or all three
A love of writing snappy, witty dialogue within an enemies to lovers context
