📖 3-Minute Story: How Limiting Beliefs Limit Your Dreams
“There’s no way I can make more than a few thousand dollars per month as a freelance writer” — was what I used to tell myself. In that moment, I was right: what you tell yourself is your reality.
Then, I decided my reality could be different, and I dreamed of a holistic work-life balance where I could travel the world and write for a living. Everything changed, and after a few years I scaled to $750/hour and $50k months. I was the same writer: the only thing that changed was what I believed to be true.
My secret? Getting rid of my limiting beliefs.
Limiting beliefs are what conspire against your success. It’s the voice inside your head that says “who do you think you are? You can’t do what they did. Your dreams aren’t going to come true.” These beliefs put a ceiling on what we can achieve, and they’re how we say “no” to ourselves.
The Internet is littered with examples of people doing amazing things. From launching a million-dollar business in a weekend to creating a 7-figure education business built on dancing on TikTok, you can find inspiration for hitting big goals anywhere.
To hit these heights, we have to stop saying no to ourselves.
When you’re feeling blocked, stuck, or sad — it’s time to go into your mind garden and pull out the weeds of your limiting beliefs.
Limiting beliefs can stem from fears that are keeping us from action. I find Tim Ferriss’ blog post about fear-setting an inspiring reminder that our fears aren’t as rooted in reality as we think.
I said yes to myself when I became a full-time writer. I said yes to myself when I started traveling the world.
What does your life look like when you start saying yes to yourself?

✍️ 1 Journal Prompt for Reflection
Start saying yes. How are you saying “no” to yourself right now? What are the fears that are holding you back? Break down each of those fears. Are they rooted in reality? What if your fears didn’t come true? What would your life look like if you started saying yes to yourself more?
Feel free to share your reflections in the comments:

Very recently, I was so flustered by the idea of rewriting my LinkedIn profile to promote my new automation offering. It was a very weird mix of fear and anxiety. I tried to tackle it head first but I really needed to scale down because it was too much. So I just rewrote a few lines and took a break of a day or two.
Honestly, when I came back to it, I made some good progress on the about section but then I got stuck again. In the end, I asked the help of a copywriter and someone to make a banner.
It was an ordeal but I’m very excited about the result. The copywriter did such an awesome job. Can’t wait to put everything into place and start chatting with people there!
Fear is a weird beast!
Thanks for this, Amy <3
