✍️ After the Book Launch & Sunday Writing Jobs
Early reviews of my new book, and a special Sunday edition of the Writing Job Board
I’m still glowing in the aftermath of launching my romantasy novel The Ash Trials on Valentine’s Day (!!!). Thank you to everyone who has read and reviewed the book so far!
It’s been nice to take a short break from writing to refocus on other important priorities — like figuring out what I’m going to wear to the masquerade ball at RomantasyCon in LA next week. Y’know, just another challenge to overcome in a writer’s life :)

🫖 Sunday Tea: After the Book Launch
Book launches as a self-published author are always a fun (and chaotic!) affair. It’s just me and my tiny team, and I’m over here happily sending out copies one by one to book reviewers and influencers, maintaining spreadsheets, and working alongside my partner Kyle to get the book out there.
💡 (P.S. I’m still sending out free copies to people who love to review books — specifically romantasy books! If that’s you, hit reply and I’ll send you a free copy of The Ash Trials!)
I learn so much about book marketing with each project, and I’ll be putting some more of my learnings over on my blog soon!
The Ash Trials was a particularly terrifying project because it’s my first real foray into writing fantasy of any kind. I came up with the idea for the book in Krakow, Poland after finishing my book The Nomad Detective: Volume I, but it was really the island of Madeira that inspired many of the settings and trials in The Ash Trials — particularly the Foggy Forest, which is a very real and very spooky place.
During the writing process, I kept feeling excited to share this story with y’all. I hoped you would like it — isn’t that the hope for any author? — and it’s been so exciting to start to hear back from early readers and reviewers.
Here’s what people are saying so far:
And thanks to Marian for her full review of the book on her blog!
I read every review (the good, the bad, the meh) because it makes me a better writer to know what my readers like (or dislike!) about my work. I know my book isn’t for everyone, but I’m not so bold to assume I know everything about crafting the perfect novel… yet. :) So thanks again to those of you who take a few minutes to read and leave a review on Amazon and Goodreads!
So far, The Ash Trials has gotten way more attention than my first two books, so it does feel like I’ve struck a chord with readers in a way I’m proud of.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy ❤️
